Sunrisers Hyderabad, on Monday (IPL 2024), announced Pat Cummins as their new captain ahead of the forthcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024).
The Australia captain has replaced Aiden Markram as the captain of the team. Markram led the side in IPL 2023 after being named as Kane Williamson’s replacement. The South Africa star earned the captaincy after leading Sunrisers Eastern Cape to the inaugural SA20 title. However, he could not replicate that success in the IPL as SRH finished at the bottom of the points table.
The Hyderabad-based outfit struggled throughout the tournament and managed to win only four of the 14 league games. Markram struggled with the bat as well, managing a modest 248 runs in 13 games at an average of 22.55. Pat Cummins will now be leading the side as it eyes its first IPL title since 2016.

IPL 2024 will be Pat Cummins’ first assignment in India since he led Australia to victory in the ODI World Cup last year. The fast-bowler has enjoyed a stunning run as Australia’s captain so far and will be hoping to extend the impressive run as an IPL captain as well.
Under his captaincy, Australia won the World Test Championship and drew the Ashes in England before clinching the World Cup last year. Pat Cummins will be leading an IPL team for the first time in his career. Apart from changing the captain, SRH has changed their head coach as well. The Hyderabad-based outfit has replaced Brian Lara with Daniel Vettori as its head coach.
SRH will be hoping that the new captain and coach change their fortunes as well. They have struggled to do well in recent years. In the last three seasons of the IPL, SRH failed to make it to the playoffs.
