Dinesh Karthik made a hilarious remark ahead of the clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Dinesh Karthik said that the match-up between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir will add an extra layer of excitement.

Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli share a history of on-field rivalries in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Their last altercation occurred during the 2023 season, when the Lucknow Super Giants, led by Gambhir, faced off against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Virat Kohli vs Gautam Gambhir – Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik humorously highlighted the anticipated clash between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli in RCB’s pre-match preview. He also expressed intrigue in the matchups of Mitchell Starc against Glenn Maxwell and Varun Chakravarthy against himself.

“Virat Kohli vs Gautam Gambhir (smiles). Mitchell Starc to Glenn Maxwell will be very interesting. Varun Chakravarthy to me (Dinesh Karthik) will be very interesting,” Dinesh Karthik said in RCB’s match preview.

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru will face the Kolkata Knight Riders at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday, March 29. Despite visiting teams failing to secure a victory in IPL 2024 matches thus far, KKR might present a significant challenge to Bengaluru.

In the upcoming match, there will be a thrilling battle between the star players of both teams. KKR will rely on key players like Sunil Narine and Andre Russell, while RCB will count on the talents of Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, and Glenn Maxwell to lead their charge.

In their 32 encounters, the Kolkata-based franchise holds a slight lead over Bengaluru with an 18-14 record. Notably, Kolkata has performed better than Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, winning 7 out of 11 matches played there between the two teams.

Have No Right To Be In That Dressing Room – Gautam Gambhir

During the ‘ANI Podcast with Smita Prakash,’ Gautam Gambhir emphasized his commitment to defending any player on his team. He reiterated that his duty as a leader was to support his players, irrespective of external factors such as media influence.

“It is not about Naveen-ul-Haq. I would have defended any player, that is my job, that is how I am. Why should I not defend my players just because someone has a broadcaster working for him, left right, and center, someone who has more social media presence doesn’t have any right to walk over someone. If I cannot stand with my players, then I have no right to be in that dressing room,” said Gambhir.

After a fiery altercation between Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq, Gautam Gambhir sided with his LSG teammate, intensifying the conflict. Both Kohli and Gambhir faced fines for violating the IPL’s Code of Conduct, admitting guilt without a formal hearing.

After his tenure with LSG, he has returned to his former team, the Kolkata Knight Riders, as a mentor for the 2024 season. It’s worth mentioning that the former Indian opener guided the KKR team to titles in 2012 and 2014 as captain in the IPL.
