Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are off and going in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. They defeated the Punjab Kings by four wickets at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru and registered their first win of the season. They made sure that they gave their home crowd everything to cheer about as they were brilliant with the bat and ball throughout the game.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) were off to a torrid start to their innings as they lost Jonny Bairstow for just 9 runs. But skipper Shikhar Dhawan made sure that hangs in there and kept his team in the game at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Dhawan played the anchor’s role to perfection. Whereas Prabhsimran Singh (25) played a perfect innings at the other end. The duo together added 55 runs before the keeper-batter was back in the hut. Soon after that, Liam Livingstone (17) perished too.

Things got worse for Punjab Kings when Dhawan perished for 45 runs. After that Sam Curran (23) and Jitesh Sharma (27) made sure that they scored runs at a quick pace for the team. The duo added 52 runs together before getting out at crucial junctures of the game.

After they got out, Shashank Singh played a brutal cameo that turned the momentum in Punjab’s favor. The right-hander scored 21 runs off just 8 balls and also slammed one four and 2 sixes in his innings. His vital innings powered Punjab Kings to a total of 176/6.

For Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mohammed Siraj was the pick of the bowlers as he returned with the figures of 2/26. Apart from him, Glenn Maxwell also picked two wickets whereas Yash Dayal and Alzarri Joesph bagged one scalp each.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru were off to a poor start as they lost skipper Faf du Plessis (3) early. After they kept losing wickets at the other end and couldn’t put the pressure on the opposition team. But Virat Kohli made sure he blocked the one end.

He played a magnificent innings of 77 runs off 49 balls. But in the middle phase, Harpreet Brar (two for 13) with his spell tilted the game in Punjab’s favor. RCB were left tottering at 130/6 and it seemed that they would lose.

But Veteran Dinesh Karthik (28*) then made full use of his experience and took his team home. Impact player Mahipal Lomror (17*) supported him well as Royal Challengers Bengaluru chased the target with four wickets and registered their first win of the season.
