Rohit Sharma's reaction to MS Dhoni's captaincy exit sparks online storm

Current India National Cricket Team and former Mumbai Indians (MI) captain, Rohit Sharma, took to his official Instagram handle to react to the resignation of MS Dhoni as captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The exit of legendary skipper Dhoni from the leadership role was made official on Thursday, March 21, a day before the commencement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Dhoni has handed over the captaincy to star opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad, who will be leading the side in the IPL 2024 opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Chepauk.

As MS Dhoni quit captaincy in the Indian Premier League (IPL), fans got emotional and they took to social media platforms to express their views. Also, former and current cricketers shared their reactions on social media after MS Dhoni passed on the baton to Gaikwad.

However, the reaction of the cricketer that got the most attention was of the current India skipper Rohit Sharma, who shares a good bond with MS Dhoni. Both MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma have faced off each other several times in the IPL and fans have got to see absolutely terrific thrillers between Dhoni’s CSK and Rohit’s MI.

Also, both the players have won 5 IPL trophies as the captain in the league. Unfortunately, both of them won’t be seen in action as captains in the IPL 2024. Hardik Pandya has replaced Rohit Sharma at the helm at MI and Gaikwad is the new CSK captain.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma took to his official Instagram handle to react to the news of Dhoni’s exit from captaincy. He posted a handshake emoji on his Instagram story and shared a pic with Dhoni.

Overall, MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma are two of the most successful skippers in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Dhoni has won 133 and lost 91 matches out of 226 he has played as captain while Rohit has won 87 and lost 67 matches in 158 outings as skipper.

Irfan Pathan pays tribute to MS Dhoni

Former India National Cricket Team all-rounder Irfan Pathan took to X to lavish rich praise on Dhoni and stated that his leadership will be remembered for decades. He also wished Gaikwad luck in carrying forward the legacy of Dhoni.

“In the ever-expanding galaxy of cricket, MS Dhoni’s legacy as CSK’s leader shines bright, akin to a supernova, illuminating the path for the franchise with unparalleled brilliance and allure. His leadership will be remembered for decades to come. Good luck Ruturaj for your new responsibility as a CSK leader,” former India National Cricket Team all-rounder Irfan Pathan wrote on X.

Meanwhile, the legendary India bowler Jhulan Goswami stated that Dhoni relinquishing captaincy was the end of an era but was confident of Gaikwad doing a good job with the captaincy burden on his shoulders.
