Nicholas Pooran-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Shikhar Dhawan-led Punjab Kings (PBKS) locked horns with each other in the 11th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024). The match between the teams was hosted by the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Saturday, March 30.

Lucknow Super Giants won the toss and opted to bat. They made some notable changes to their team with the biggest one being Nicholas Pooran leading the team in place of KL Rahul, who played the match as an impact player. LSG also handed the debut caps to Mayank Yadav and Manimaran Siddarth. PBKS, however, fielded an unchanged playing XI for the match.

KL Rahul came to open the innings with Quinton de Kock and played his natural game. Rahul just couldn’t get going and he was back in the hut after scoring 9-ball 15. He was cleaned up by Arshdeep Singh in the 4th over of the innings.

The No.3 batter Devdutt Padikkal was up next and just like Rahul he wasn’t able to play an impactful innings and was dismissed for 9 in the 6th over. After the two quick wickets, Marcus Stoinis tried to stabilize the inning and he played aggressively.

After being involved in a 33-run stand with De Kock, Stoinis was castled by Rahul Chahar. He smashed the leg-spinner for consecutive sixes before being castled. Then came a good time for LSG as stand-in skipper Nicholas Pooran came in the middle and demolished the PBKS bowling unit.

During his 47-run partnership with De Kock and a 21-run stand with Ayush Badoni, Nicholas Pooran smashed the bowlers all over the park. He smashed 42 runs off 21 balls during his stay in the middle and was at the receiving end of an unfortunate dismissal as he dragged back a Kagiso Rabada delivery onto his stumps.

At the last, Krunal Pandya played a wonderful knock at a strike rate of 195.45 to power LSG to a great total. He scored 43 runs off 22 balls as the home team finished with 199/8 on the board.

Chasing the target, Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow took their time before launching an attack on the LSG bowlers. At the end of the powerplay, PBKS were at 61 runs without losing any wickets. They continued batting brilliance in the next few overs and at the end of the 10th over, PBKS were at 98/0.

Things went smoothly for Punjab Kings until the introduction of LSG debutant Mayank Yadav. The young fast bowler surprised everyone with his pace as he consistently bowled over 150kph. He broke the back of Punjab Kings and finished his spell with the figures of 3/27.

Shikhar Dhawan played a knock of 70 runs off 50 balls while Jonny Bairstow scored 42 runs off 29 balls. Other than the openers, only Liam Livingstone was able to fire with the bat as he scored 28 runs off 17 balls, but it wasn’t enough for the win and PBKS were restricted to 178/5. LSG won the match by 21 runs to hand PBKS their second consecutive defeat in IPL 2024.
