"Shreyas Iyer, the Kolkata Knight Riders captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens on April 17," said BCCI on Wednesday.

"As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Iyer was fined 12 lakh."

The Kolkata team was forced to bring an additional fielder inside the circle during the last over of the match due to a slow overrate. Varun Chakaravarthy conceded six off the first ball when nine runs were needed. Buttler scored three runs off the last two balls to guide his team to victory.

Jos Buttler scored an unbeaten 107 runs off 60 balls, including nine boundaries and six maximums. The Sanju Samson-led team pulled off the joint-highest chase in IPL history. The RR opening batter's outstanding performance overshadowed Sunil Narine's century in the recent match.

Earlier, Sunil Narine smashed his maiden T20 century as the KKR team posted a total of 223 runs in the allotted 20 overs. The left-handed batter scored 109 runs off 56 balls, including 13 fours and six maximums. However, the other KKR batter failed to cross the half-century mark in the match.

Emotions Were A Roller Coaster - Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer expressed his disappointment with the loss, describing the match as an emotional roller coaster. Iyer emphasized the importance of learning from setbacks, calling them valuable experiences for future matches.

"I would second that actually, emotions were a roller coaster, certainly didn’t think we would get into this situation. It’s a funny game at the end of the day, he was striking the ball cleanly and timing them so well, had to take it on the chin and move on."

"I mean at this point in time you see that you bowl your best deliveries, a little bit hit or miss and you are sent out of the ground, it’s good that it happened now rather than it happening in the later stages of the tournament, good learning for us," he said in the post-match interview with the broadcasters.

The Kolkata team currently occupies second place in the table with 8 points to their tally and a net run rate (NRR) of +1.399. They hope to regain winning momentum when they face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, April 21.
