Gujarat Titans’ left-arm spinner Sai Kishore praised Shubman Gill for his effective leadership against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2024 match. Sai Kishore highlighted the valuable insights provided by Shubman Gill during his bowling spell in the recent match.
Shubman Gill captained the Gujarat Titans for the first time against the Mumbai Indians at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, March 24. The young opening batter led his team to a narrow six-run victory in a thrilling encounter at their home ground.
The 24-year-old scored 31 runs from 22 balls, including three boundaries and a six. However, he couldn’t convert his start into a substantial score as he was dismissed by Piyush Chawla. Despite this, he stood as the second-highest run scorer in the Titans’ batting lineup.
Shubman Gill Led The Team Very Well – Sai Kishore
After Hardik Pandya’s departure, Shubman Gill assumed leadership of the GT. Kishore commended Gill for his effective leadership, highlighting Gill’s seamless transition into the captaincy role despite it being his debut.
“Shubman led the team very well. It did not look like he was leading for the first time. Even to me as a spinner, the inputs that he gave were fantastic,” Kishore said in the post-match press conference.
Kishore delivered an exceptional performance, displaying his skill under pressure by claiming one wicket for just 24 runs in his four overs. The Tamil Nadu-born cricketer dismissed Mumbai opener Rohit Sharma, which shifted the momentum in his team’s favor.
Rohit Sharma Is A Match Winner – Sai Kishore
The left-arm spinner expressed his enjoyment of bowling four consecutive overs in a single spell, comparing it to the rhythm of a one-day match. He also noted his flexibility in adjusting to shorter spells if necessary, drawing from his experience in T20 tournaments.
“When you bowl 4 overs on the trot, it’s more like a one-day match. It’s easier to stay in rhythm. With the Impact Player rule, we are playing 6 bowlers and so, I am getting that role of bowling 4 overs on the trot in the middle overs. But I am open to bowling in spells of 1 over each as I usually bowl that way in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and TNPL,” Kishore said.
Sai Kishore acknowledged Rohit’s status as a match-winner, highlighting the significance of his wicket at that crucial juncture.
“He is a match-winner, and at that stage, to get a player like him, I am very grateful,” he added.
Rohit Sharma amassed 43 runs from 29 deliveries, including seven boundaries and a six, before his dismissal. Rohit’s departure, when the Mumbai Indians were at 107/3 in 12.1 overs, added pressure as they failed to secure victory in the recent match in the IPL 2024.
The Shubman Gill-led team rose to fourth place in the table, adding two points to their tally. The Ahmedabad-based franchise is scheduled to face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their upcoming match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday, March 26.
