Just hours before the anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings, a looming issue threatens to halt the match. The encounter faces potential cancellation as authorities grapple with challenges.
The Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) disconnected the power supply at Uppal Stadium due to unpaid bills from the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), posing a significant challenge for the stadium's operations and upcoming events.
The HCA accumulated significant unpaid electricity bills totaling approximately Rs 3.05 crore, comprising both principal dues and late payment surcharges, according to a Network 18 report. Despite receiving multiple notices from the power department to settle the outstanding dues, HCA failed to clear the amount.
The Service Will Be Liable For Disconnection Without Further Notice - TSSPDCL
The TSSPDCL remained firm despite the HCA's plea to waive surcharges amid the pandemic. In February 2024, TSSPDCL issued a final notice, setting a 15-day payment deadline. However, the HCA failed to meet this deadline, leading to the current predicament.
The notice cited tariff regulations, rejecting the waiver request for late payment surcharges. It urged the HCA to clear the surcharge of Rs 1,63,94,521 within 15 days to avoid disconnection of services.
