Delhi pacer Mayank Yadav impressed one and all on his IPL debut picking up 3/27 and bowling Lucknow Super Giants to victory in their first game at home. LSG boarded the first points of the season after beating Punjab Kings by 21 runs in Lucknow.
Mayank’s pace unsettled the Punjab Kings batters as he took the first three wickets to fall off the opposition. He dismissed Jonny Bairstow (42), Prabhsimran Singh (19), and Jitesh Sharma (6) digging it in short and unsettling the batsman.
At just 21 years of age, Mayank bowled the fastest delivery of the season so far clocking 155.8 kph. He certainly seems to be a find at least this is what Stuart Broad thinks. He clocked speeds over 140 kph consistently catching the eyes of the Broad. He took a light jibe at Steve Smith in his comments after the game with Star Sports. Broafd first spoke about how impressed he was with the young pacer.
There’s Something Special: Stuart Broad On Mayank Yadav
“Obviously, he has a natural pace, but his control of line and length was exceptional for a young bowler. “Sometimes, as a young bowler, you can come in and charge in with the emotion and try and bowl as quickly as possible. But the radar goes. But I thought his control of the lines was fantastic.”
“Yes, Jonny Bairstow hit a fantastic shot to the backward of point when there was a bit of width. But, other than that, he really didn’t give the batters anything. When you see world-class batters like Jonny Bairstow, who have played all over the world when they are getting rushed, you know there’s something special” Stuart Broad told Star Sports.
Punjab Kinsg were well-placed at 102 for no loss when Mayank took three wickets back to back and put Punjab in a spot of bother at 139/3. None of his deliveries were bowled below 140 and he consistently troubled the batters. He did not resort to any slower or change-up deliveries and trusted the pace and it worked.
The Lucknow pitch looked far better than what it was in the last season. It was good for strokeplay and certainly had a lot for the bowers who bend their backs like Mayank did. Broad on Star Sports said that he has already texted Steve Smith asking him to watch out for the young pacer.
“You don’t need to get far ahead. But I have already texted Steve Smith. If you are seeing this guy in Australia in the Test series, get used to it,” Broad said, responding to Manjrekar who wanted him to be taken straightway into the senior team.
Earlier in the game, LSG batted first and scored 199/8 on the back of Quinton de Kock’s 54, Nicholas Pooran’s 43, and Krunal Pandya’s unbeaten 43. Skipper KL Rahul played as an impact player scoring 15 off 9 balls opening the batting. Pooran spoke about the management not wanting to rush Rahul with keeping in this match. The Kings from being 102 for no loss finished at 178/5 losing the match by 21 runs
Mayank for his spell of 3/27 won the Man of the Match award. LSG’s next match is against RCB on April 2 at the Chinnaswamy.
“I am delighted to see him getting the Player of the Match. When you see a fast bowler getting the award, it brings a smile to my face,” Broad concluded saying.
