Rajasthan Royals' New Zealand-based left-arm seamer Trent Boult has revealed his favorite Indian batsman from the bunch of so many talented batters around the country.
Boult, who is all set to be in action later today against the Punjab Kings, has admitted that Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul is his favorite batsman from India and not Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma or Sachin Tendulkar.
While this may come as a shocker to a lot of fans, the Kiwi's revelation also speaks volumes about his cricketing knowledge.
Trent Boult is often regarded as the swing king and one of the greatest left-arm seamers of all time. His ability to swing the ball in and out and pitch it high in dangerous areas has also made him one of the most feared fast bowlers around.
Boult is a value addition for whichever team he plays for and all of us are quite lucky to see him play. Since he is such a world-class bowler, it is only normal for him to choose a player of his stature and perhaps that is the reason why he chose KL Rahul.
Boult and Rahul: Story of two technicians
If Boult is known for his incredible technique in bowling in-swingers and out-swingers, KL Rahul is famous for his pleasing, exquisite, and eye-catching batting technique.
Rahul is one of those rare cricketers around the world, who is technically gifted right from the early days of his career - be it his bat swing, his head positioning, or his foot movement.
In any given situation, the Bengaluru-based cricketer is known for relying on his instincts and playing textbook cricketing shots.
Initially, he was regarded as a very slow player for taking his time to settle in, but with time, Rahul has developed into a hard hitter as well.
Trent Boult Vs KL Rahul: A look into their head-to-heads
There has to be a solid reason why Trent Boult labeled KL Rahul as his favorite Indian batsman instead of naming Kohli and Rohit among others.
A look into Boult and Rahul's head-to-head stats across formats might give us a little idea as to whether the Kiwi named the latter as his favorite just because he has struggled against him.
In T20 cricket, out of the 13 innings that Trent Boult has bowled against KL Rahul, the former has claimed his wicket on only 3 occasions whereas the latter has a very good average of 62 against him.
Moreover, Rahul also has batted against him at a strike rate of 147, smacked 6 sixes and 15 fours. The Indian top-order batter has 124 runs against Boult and it will be fair to say that Rahul has won the battle against him in the shortest format.
The duo have faced each other in ODI cricket only thrice and therein, KL Rahul has scored 19 runs and Trent Boult has never claimed his wicket.
Their meeting in Test cricket of just 2 matches and there also, the right-hand batter has scored 19 runs and Boult has never taken his wicket. And in IPL cricket, Boult has got rid of Rahul twice from 10 innings with the latter scoring 92 runs
