After smacking a century in the RR vs RCB match on Saturday, RCB opener Virat Kohli made some comments about the pitch at Jaipur Stadium. Virat Kohli felt the pitch looked different from the outside and behaved differently during the match. However, cricket commentator and expert Ajay Jadeja contradicted his claims after the match.
Virat Kohli was at his absolute best during the clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR). The RCB opener shattered 113 runs off 72 balls to register his 8th ton in IPL history. During his unbeaten innings, Kohli slammed 12 fours and 4 sixes.
However, his innings went in vain as Royal Challengers Bengaluru ended on the losing side in the end; thanks to Jos Buttler's 58-ball ton. RCB could only pile up 183-3 in 1st innings as other batters failed to support Kohli. RR opener Buttler stormed a century later to drive RR to victory with 5 balls to spare.
Ajay Jadeja contradicts Virat Kohli’s assumption about the Jaipur pitch
After the RCB vs RR clash, Virat Kohli made some comments about the Jaipur Stadium's pitch. He said the pitch looked flat from the outside but the ball was holding up.
“The wicket looks quite different from the outside. It feels like it's flat, but the ball is holding up in the pitch, that's when you realise the pace changes,” Kohli told on Star Sports.
However, former India batter Ajay Jadeja refuted his claims later. Jadeja believes the way Kohli played his innings, it never looked like there were any shortcomings in the pitch.
"He (Kohli) started out so well. He hit a couple of boundaries in the first few overs, and you knew you were watching something special tonight. The only surprising thing was him speaking about how the deliveries were not carrying through on this pitch, but the way he batted, we didn't see any shortcomings in the pitch," Jadeja said on Jio Cinema.
Ajay Jadeja, who played for India from 1992 to 2000, also noted that Kohli scored runs on every corner during his century. Hence, it proves there were no issues with the pitch.
"In terms of his shot-making, no corner of the ground was left where he didn't smash the ball. What he said made us think something might be wrong with the pitch, but the way he played, there wasn't a single shortcoming that could be seen," the 53-year-old further added.
