Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill recently took a dig at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) owner Shah Rukh Khan. Shubman Gill's comments regarding the Knight Riders' decision not to retain him ahead of the IPL 2022 auction have gone viral across social media platforms.
The young Indian opening cricketer had the opportunity to engage in a cheeky conversation with the famous English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran and comedian Tanmay Bhatt. The renowned singer recently visited India for the final leg of his +-=/x (Mathematics) tour.

During a meal together, Shubman Gill jokingly asked Sheeran to find out why the Kolkata Knight Riders didn???t retain him, as Sheeran mentioned his upcoming meeting with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. This amusing interaction has garnered attention on social media.
Ed Sheeran: "I am going to Shah Rukh's house tonight."
Shubman Gill: "I used to play for his team."
Ed Sheeran: "Did you? He has a team!"
Tanmay Bhatt: "Yes, Kolkata Knight Riders."
Shubman Gill: "Ask him why did they not retain me."

Shubman Gill made his IPL debut for the Kolkata franchise in 2018 and enjoyed decent success. Gill scored 1417 runs in 58 matches at an average of 31.49 and a strike rate of 123. However, the young batter was not retained by the KKR team ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.
The Punjab-born cricketer joined the Gujarat Titans ahead of the 2022 season, scoring 483 runs in 16 matches at an average of 34.50 and a strike rate of 132.33 during the GT team's title victory in 2022. Subsequently, he went on to clinch the Orange Cap in the following season.
Gill scored 890 runs at an average of 59.33 in IPL 2023, including three hundreds and four half-centuries. However, despite his outstanding performance, the Ahmedabad-based team finished as the runner-up in 2023. Gill was named captain of the GT team before the 2024 season.
Shubman Gill Leads Gujarat Titans In IPL 2024
After Hardik Pandya returned to the Mumbai Indians (MI), Shubman Gill assumed the captaincy of the Gujarat Titans franchise in the IPL 2024. Under his leadership, the Titans have experienced a mixed performance, winning two out of four games played so far.
The Gujarat Titans secured a victory in their first match against the Mumbai Indians but faced a significant defeat against the Chennai Super Kings. They claimed their second win against SunRisers Hyderabad but suffered a close loss to Punjab Kings in their fourth match.
In his performance, Gill has amassed 164 runs across four innings with an impressive average of 54.67 and a strike rate of 159.22. His standout performance came against the Punjab Kings, where he scored an unbeaten 89 runs off 48 balls.
