Ajinkya Rahane showed remarkable presence of mind and athleticism to send back Virat Kohli in the ongoing game between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2024 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli gave RCB a good start by adding 41 runs in quick time before Mustafizur Rahman dismissed the former and Rajat Patidar in the fifth over to put CSK on top. In the very next over, Deepak Chahar sent back the dangerous Glenn Maxwell to reduce RCB to 42 for 3.

Virat Kohli and Cameron Green then steadied the ship. However, just when it looked like Virat Kohli had his eyes set and would shift gears, Ajinkya Rahane came up with a brilliant effort. CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad recalled Mustafizur into the attack and it paid off immediately.

On the second ball of the over, the Bangladesh fast-bowler bowled a back-of-length delivery and Virat Kohli went for a pull. The former RCB skipper made a decent contact although he could not clear the boundary due to a lack of pace on the delivery. However, Virat Kohli had placed his shot between the two fielders in deep and the ball was looking destined to land safely.

Ajinkya Rahane, however, had other ideas. The CSK batter came running in from deep mid-wicket and took the catch with a slide before throwing it to Rachin Ravindra as the momentum took him towards the boundary. The replays showed that Ajinkya Rahane had released the ball before touching the boundary and Kohli had no option but to walk off.

On the fourth ball of the same over, Mustafizur struck again to remove Cameron Green for 18 and left RCB reeling at 78 for 5. At the time of writing this report, RCB were on 81 for 5 in the 13th over with Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik fighting it out with the bat.
