Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry played a key role for RCB in winning the first-ever WPL title and ending RCB’s title drought in general. The Australian all-rounder also ended as the top run-getter in the league with 347 and picked up seven wickets from nine games including six wickets in one match which was the Eliminator against Mumbai Indians women.

Ellyse Perry, who was relatively cold as an overseas international cricket for RCB, came to the fore, especially in the knockouts for the side. She scored a match-winning 66 with the bat in the first game against Mumbai Indians women. In the Delhi leg, she took six wickets in the second game and won the game for RCB with the ball. Her figures of 6/15 remain the best-ever figures in the WPL.

Perry stood up yet again in the final as she scored an unbeaten 35 with the bat and with an unbeaten stand of 33 runs helped her team win the final after Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine were dismissed in the 30s as well.

Before RCB’s IPL 2024 campaign opener against CSK, Ellyse Perry spoke about Virat Kohli the international cricketer.

“I think Virat’s unbelievable records and accomplishments in the game speak for themselves. I think from our team’s perspective to have that association with him, last year he came and spoke with us during the tournament. We face timed him after the final this time, he has been a wonderful supporter. He is obviously such an important part of RCB and has been over the years” said Perry.

Meanwhile, RCB are up against it as they take on CSK in their den as they call it. In a staggering stat, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have not won against Chennai Super Kings in the last 15 years at the Chepauk.

CSK also had a big change leading into this game, as he decided to step down as Chennai Super Kings captain. Ruturaj Gaikwad will take over the leadership responsibilities from the very first game itself. MS Dhoni ends his captaincy stint as the most successful captain in IPL history with five IPL titles alongside Rohit Sharma.

“I don’t think I need to change anything. Last year itself, Mahi bhai had just hinted about captaincy at some point of time. Just hinted that, ‘be ready, it shouldn’t be a surprise to you’. When we came into the camp, obviously he made me involved in some of the practice match simulations. I remember him posting about a new role on social media and everybody was just pointing towards me and asking me whether ‘you are the next captain?’ I was like, ‘maybe it meant something else for social media’. Back of the mind, it was there. I would say just a week (before) we came and he said, ‘I’ve decided this and this’, but definitely now that I’m here, I’m really looking forward to this” Gaikwad told IPLT20.com ahead of his first game as CSK captain.
