The official broadcaster – Star Sports – of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has confirmed Pat Cummins as the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad for the upcoming edition of the league. Star Sports posted a video of the Australian skipper, who called India his second home.

Pat Cummins will be donning the orange jersey this time in the IPL 2024. The Australia Test captain became the second most expensive buy in the history of the tournament as he was brought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for the whopping amount of INR 20.5 crore.

Since the time, Pat Cummins was brought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad, there have been a lot of speculations about the fast bowler leading the team in the league. The Australian skipper has had a massive success as an ODI and Test captain of his national side.

Pat Cummins won the World Test Championship (WTC) and ICC World Cup 2023. Because of his sensational show with the ball and as a captain, he was awarded the Cricketer of the Year 2023 as he made Australia a dominating force in world cricket.

Recently there were reports in Cricbuzz which also suggested that Pat Cummins will be taking over the leadership of the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The reports claimed that the franchise will be soon making an official announcement related to the appointment of the Australian captain as the new skipper.

Pat Cummins will be taking over the leadership from Aiden Markram, who captained the team for two seasons. The South African didn’t have a great outing as a skipper as SRH finished eighth in 2022 and was tenth last year.

Pat Cummins after his success as an Australian captain will be taking over the leadership of SRH with huge expectations. The fast bowler has been exceptional as a leader for Australia but his record in the T20Is and IPL isn’t as great as the other two formats. Therefore it would be a huge challenge for him.

India is like a second home, we have spent so much time here – Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins expressed his love towards the Indian fans and called India his second home. He talked about how people in India come up to him while giving the reference to IPL teams. Star Sports posted the video on their Twitter account with a banner: Pat Cummins is set to captain SRH in IPL. However, they later deleted the video.

“India is like a second home, we have spent so much time here. IPL, you’ve got your home teams, actually feels like you have a lot of fans that have supported you. Lot of people come up to me and say I’m from Kolkata, so it’s nice feeling that not everyone is against you.

“It feels like a second home, we’ve spent so much time here, so it’s always great. When Tendulkar batted whole of the India is watching, lots of people tune in for the contest. You have got to lock in early or else they are off the flier. I’m just a big believer in concentrating in what I do well.”
