Kolkata Knight Riders’ English wicket-keeper batsman Phil Salt was pretty close to giving Australia’s Glenn Maxwell a fresh injury as the former struck his back with a darting throw. The incident occurred in the 1st innings during the match-up between RCB and KKR at the M. Chinnaswamy, wherein Shreyas Iyer’s side registered victory by 7-wickets.

While most of the fans of both teams were expecting to see a heated match between KKR and RCB, it turned out to be one filled with roses and daffodils.

Neither did we see a fight between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir, nor could we witness any heated altercation between players. The only thing that did happen was the throw from Phil Salt on the back of Glenn Maxwell, who was running hard to reach safely towards the non-striker’s end.

The mishap happened during the overs bowled by KKR all-rounder Andre Russell. Glenn Maxwell had guided the ball behind the stumps and with Kohli on the other end, the Aussie explosive batter closed his eyes and just went for the run, even though it was very risky.

Behind the wickets was Phil Salt, who, in anticipation that Kohli would make his ground safely, committed a darting throw towards the non-striker’s end where Maxwell was heading. While the ball looked nowhere near hitting the stumps, Maxwell’s glutes became the target.

Right after being struck with such a strong throw from Phil Salt, Glenn Maxwell could not hide his pain. He first tapped the area where he was hit and then during the follow-through, his expression said it all. Even if a tennis ball hits someone with that much velocity and power, it will cause pain so just guess what will happen when a leather ball strikes, that too in the glutes.

While Glenn Maxwell was looking skywards in sheer pain, Andre Russell did not care at all. The West Indies international was seen giving a high 5 to his KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer with a vicious and evil smirk on his face.

Another thing that should be noticed is that, before giving a clap to Iyer, Russell himself was in danger of getting hit on his face. The all-rounder, who had claimed the man of the match in KKR’s opening game, was somehow able to just dodge the throw before it hit Maxwell.

That was perhaps the only aggressive thing between two players that happened in that match, otherwise, it was just a one-sided contest that had remained in the favor of 2-time champions right from the beginning.

Glenn Maxwell hoping to make his presence felt in RCB’s next match against LSG

Meanwhile, Glenn Maxwell after enduring that lethal hit, departed from the crease by scoring 28 runs, despite getting off to a good start. He was also dropped a couple of times but he failed to make the most of it. Maxwell now has scored only 31 runs from the opening 3 matches against CSK, PBKS, and KKR. In the next match against Lucknow Super Giants which takes place on April 2nd, the Australian will hope to make amends and get some runs under his belt.
