Vijay Shankar's poor run with the bat in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League continued as he was dismissed for just eight runs off 10 balls in the ongoing game between Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings.
In the first game of the season, he did not have much to do with the bat as he scored 6 against Mumbai Indians before being dismissed for just 12 in the following game against Chennai Super Kings. In the third game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he scored 14.
On Thursday (April 4), he walked to bat in the 14th over and had ample time to make a mark. However, he could make only eight off 10 balls before a fine catch from Harpreet Brar ended his knock. On the fourth ball of the 18th over, Kagiso Rabada bowled a short and slower delivery and Vijay Shankar miscued it.
At first, it looked like the ball would fall well in front of Brar who was standing at long-off. However, the PBKS spinner charged in and put in a brilliant dive to complete the catch.

Meanwhile, an unbeaten knock of 89 runs from captain Shubman Gill has helped the Titans put up a challenging total of 199 for 4 in the allotted 20 overs. His knock came off 48 balls and was studded with six fours and four sixes. Kane Williamson (26), Sai Sudharsan (33) and Rahul Tewatia (23* off 8) also played crucial knocks for the 2022 IPL champions.
Speaking at the end of the innings, Williamson spoke about Gill's captaincy, saying: "He has just started, a great cricket brain, what a gifted player, leads by example, he will keep growing with experience. (On the dew factor) There isn’t any at the moment which is good, so hopefully our spinners will come onto play, we have two overseas spinners in Rashid and Noor, there’s a bit of hold in the pitch and some bounce for the spinners."
