Jos Buttler, England’s white-ball captain, has decided to officially change his name to Josh Buttler after years of being called the wrong name. Jos Buttler’s decision comes after enduring misnaming incidents, prompting him to “solve the problem once and for all.”
The veteran cricketer has represented England in 57 Tests, 181 ODIs, and 114 T20Is. The wicketkeeper batter is set to captain the defending champions in the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in the USA and the Caribbean Islands in June this year.
Jos Buttler is currently representing the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The opening batter’s performance has been disappointing in the T20 tournament. He scored just 11 runs with a strike rate of 88 in the team’s first two matches.
Buttler’s impactful leadership played a crucial role in England’s T20 World Cup victory in Australia in late 2022. England anticipates that Buttler’s successful stint with the Royals will provide him with optimal preparation for leading the team in their title defense.
I Am Officially Josh Buttler – Jos Buttler
In a video by the England cricket team on X, Buttler recounted how he’s often referred to as ‘Josh’ instead of ‘Jos’, from his MBE to his mom’s birthday card. Consequently, to permanently address the issue, Buttler officially changed his name to Josh.
“Hi there. I’m England white-ball captain Jos Buttler. But for my entire life, I’ve been called the wrong name. From people on the street to my mom in my birthday card. Dear Josh, you’re getting old. Happy birthday! Lots of love, Mum. Even my MBE was wrong. So after 13 years of representing my country and two World Cup wins, it’s time to finally fix the problem. To solve the problems once and for all, I am officially Josh Butter.”
