Rishabh Pant is all set to make a comeback to competitive cricket through the IPL 2024. This is his first major cricketing assignment since his near-fatal car crash in December 2022.

Pant missed every cricketing assignment that India played last year including the IPL 2023. This year, he is all set to make a comeback as the captain of Delhi Capitals. The Capitals kick off their IPL 2024 campaign against Punjab Kings on March 23 in Mohali.

Pant has played for the Capitals throughout his IPL career. He is approaching 100 matches and 3000 runs for the franchise. He had a brief interaction with Jio Cinema during his team’s promotion before their campaign opener, where he spoke about MS Dhoni. He spoke about the one basic advice that Dhoni gave him throughout his career.

Rishabh Pant On MS Dhoni

“Keep it simple. One thing at a time. If you focus on cricket, focus on the game, focus on the core subject” Pant opened up.

When the anchor asked about his relationship with MS Dhoni, an emotional Rishabh Pant said “We don’t talk too much on messages and this is something I learned from him as well. Best interactions happen when you meet one on one with someone and talking close to you. Mahi bhai se toh pyaar hai. baaki toh sahi hai Sir, all good,” said an emotional DC skipper.

The return of Rishabh Pant is making everyone look at him with baited breadth. He was in terrific form across formats before he got injured. He was a big absence for the Indian team in the World Cup and everything that India played last year. He was slotted in the Grade B category despite his absence from the Indian team throughout last year.

Pant is still the first-choice keeper-batter for the Indian team. In his absence, several keepers were tried but none of them had success with the bat like him. The best fit at number four was KL Rahul. He has also been asked to bat at number four in this IPL so that he can be the second keeper-batter option.

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni stepped down as the Chennai Super Kings skipper a day before the IPL 2024 season opener against RCB. The decision shocked everyone. Stephen Fleming the CSK coach said that this was in Dhoni’s mind for a long time and he made the decision finally public on Thursday.

“(When Dhoni broke the news) there was a lot of emotions. A whole lot of tears. There wasn’t a dry eye in the dressing room. Everyone was moved. Last time (when CSK changed the captain) we weren’t as prepared for MS to move and for a change in leadership.

“There was also a round of congratulations to Ruturaj. He isn’t the most vocal person, but he has qualities to lead us in the right direction,” said Fleming.

MS Dhoni stepped down as captain after winning five IPL titles with CSK. He and Rohit Sharma have won five titles each in the IPL and are the most successful captains.
