India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma has joined his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of the 2024 edition of the competition. The announcement was made through the social media handles of MI on Monday, March 18.

Rohit Sharma will not be leading the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He has been replaced as the captain by star fast-bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya.

Pandya was traded in by the Mumbai Indians franchise from Gujarat Titans (GT) ahead of the IPL 2024 season for INR 15 crore. As Pandya joined the squad, MI traded Cameron Green to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to free up some purse.

The arrival of Pandya at the MI came as a massive surprise to many as the all-rounder had a great time with Gujarat Titans (GT) in his 2-year stint. Since joining the Ahmedabad-based franchise after being released from MI, Hardik Pandya won IPL 2022 as captain and led the team to the final in the next season. He was also having a great time both with bat and ball and his success with Gujarat Titans (GT) helped him become a part of the leadership group in the Indian team.

Meanwhile, as Hardik Pandya replaced Rohit Sharma as captain, the fans lashed out at the franchise and labeled it as a blunder of a decision. Notably, Rohit Sharma is the joint-most successful skipper in the IPL history as he has guided MI to 5 title wins.

Amid the captaincy saga, Hardik Pandya and MI head coach addressed a press conference on Monday, and on the same day, Rohit Sharma joined the franchise.

The Mumbai Indians took to their social media handles to announce the arrival of the former captain in a hilarious manner. They used Rohit Sharma’s stump mic gem “Koi bhi garden mein ghumega, maa c*** dunga sabki” to announce his arrival. Notably, this comment of Rohit was made during the Test series against England and it went viral on social media.

They shared a video with the caption, “Woh aa gaya…Ro aa gaya (Rohit is here)”. Also, in the video a boy can be seen telling his friend, “Woh aa gaya. Jo garden mein ghoomne nahi deta.”

Meanwhile, during the press conference, Hardik Pandya said that Rohit Sharma will always be there to help him and he just needs to carry forward Rohit’s legacy.

“It will not be any different, he will always be there to help me. You mentioned that he is the captain of the Indian team, which helps me because this team, what it has achieved, it has achieved under him…from now onwards, it is (about) what he has achieved, I just have to carry forward that,” Pandya said at a media interaction here.

“I don’t think it will be any awkward or any different. It will be nice feeling because we have been playing for 10 years. I have played my whole career under him and he is going to have his hand on my shoulder throughout the season,” he added.
