India captain Rohit Sharma was seen hitting a sensational lofted straight drive during a recent Mumbai Indians' net session ahead of the franchise's 5th IPL 2024 league match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Rohit has been in sensational form in this edition and he has displayed his power-hitting prowess very well in the first 4 matches, barring the clash against Rajasthan Royals where he departed for a golden duck. The opening batter will also be chasing his first half-century of the season later tonight.
In Mumbai's previous league match against the Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede stadium, Rohit Sharma was batting at his most destructive mode.
He started to smack DC bowlers from ball 1 as he was trying to bury the ghost of the previous match against Rajasthan Royals.
Rohit didn't want to get out for yet another duck and that's why his agenda was to just - see the ball and hit the ball. And so he did. His aggressive start saw him maintain a daunting strike rate of 181.
Rohit Sharma's batting was such that he pushed DC to the backfoot and Rishabh Pant was forced to introduce left-arm off-spinner Axar Patel. The DC all-rounder, after getting smacked for a few boundaries, responded very well as he denied the Hitman from scoring his maiden half-century of IPL 2024 by just a single run.
Axar executed a fantastic arm ball which went straight into the stumps after pitching outside off through the angle of Axar's release. MI were 80/1 when Rohit Sharma received his marching orders at 49 runs off 27 balls and he smashed 6 fours and 3 sixes in the process.
Rohit Sharma to play his 248th IPL game tonight
When Rohit Sharma walks out to the Wankhede stadium for match number 25 of IPL 2024 against RCB, he will be playing his 248th IPL career match.
He currently stands as the joint-second cricketer to have the most appearances in Indian Premier League history along with former India teammate Dinesh Karthik, who too, will be sharing the same stage as Rohit in playing his 248th IPL game.
Karthik has achieved this feat by representing franchises like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Gujarat (Lions), Bengaluru and Punjab.
Rohit Sharma has done this while playing for only two franchises - the Mumbai Indians and the Deccan Chargers where he played from 2008-2011.
The 36-year-old will be playing his landmark 250th IPL game when MI takes an away trip to Mullanpur for a clash against the Punjab Kings on April 18th, Thursday, which is match number 33 of IPL 2024.
Tonight's match between MI and RCB becomes even more special given the fact that there will be several face-offs.
Virat Kohli will be going against Jasprit Bumrah, Faf du Plessis will be going against Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma will be against Mohammed Siraj. So, an interesting match-up awaits us at 7:30 PM in Wankhede.
