Sunil Narine, on Wednesday (April 3), played a whirlwind innings with the bat to put Kolkata Knight Riders in the driver’s seat in the ongoing game against Delhi Capitals in the 16th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024).
Opening the batting, Sunil Narine smashed 85 off just 39 balls with the help of seven fours and as many sixes. He hit a four in the third over to get going and did not look back. In the fourth over, the Caribbean star smashed Ishant Sharma for 26 runs, hitting three sixes and two fours.
In the final over of the powerplay, Sunil Narine completed his fifty off just 21 deliveries after hitting Rasikh Salam for six and three fours. At the end of the powerplay, KKR had raced away to 88 for 1. Things did not change much after the powerplay as well.
Sunil Narine kept hitting the boundaries at will and was eventually dismissed in the 13th over when he edged a short and slower delivery from Mitchell Marsh behind the stumps to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. While the KKR star missed a well-deserved century by just 15 runs, the entire stadium gave him a standing ovation. As Sunil Narine was walking back, the cameras turned towards the stands where KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan was seen standing up and giving the player a standing ovation.

Talking about the game, KKR were on 203 for 3 in the 16th over at the time of writing this report. Apart from Narine, debutant Angkrish Raghuvanshi impressed with the bat as well. The 18-year-old slammed 54 off just 27 balls with the help of five fours and three sixes.
Narine and Raghuvanshi shared a 104-run stand for the second wicket. Shreyas Iyer and Andre Russell were batting in the middle at the time of writing this report. KKR are eyeing a third straight win in IPL 2024 while DC are looking for their second win in four games.
