Gujarat Titans (GT) players Shubman Gill and Vijay Shankar recently discussed their team’s victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2023. Shubman Gill and Vijay Shankar played a crucial role in knocking out the RCB team in the previous season.

The Gujarat-based franchise will commence its campaign in the IPL 2024 under the leadership of Shubman Gill. The Gujarat team will face the Mumbai Indians (MI) in their opening match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, at 7:30 PM on Sunday, March 24.

Watch – Shubman Gill, Vijay Shankar Burst Into Laughter

In a video posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), Shubman Gill and Vijay Shankar were seen discussing their match-winning partnership against RCB in the IPL 2023. Gill jokingly called it the “most hated partnership,” with both players sharing a laugh.

Shubman Gill led the Titans to a remarkable six-wicket victory over the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the league stage match in the IPL 2023. Shubman’s superb century dealt a significant blow to RCB, ultimately leading to their elimination from the playoffs.

GT faced an early setback when Wriddhiman Saha was dismissed in the third over. However, Gill quickly found his rhythm. The opening batter forged a match-winning 123-run partnership with Vijay Shankar for the second wicket, bringing GT closer to their target.

Vijay Shankar scored 52 runs off 35 balls, including seven boundaries and two sixes. He was dismissed by Vijaykumar Vyshak in the 15th over. Meanwhile, Gill remained unbeaten on 104 runs off 52 balls, guiding GT to chase down the 198-run target with 5 balls to spare.

Shubman Gill Is Really Keen To Do The Job – Gary Kirsten

GT batting coach Gary Kirsten discussed the prospects of newly-appointed skipper Shubman Gill for the IPL 2024. Kirsten acknowledged Gill’s determination but also anticipated challenges due to his limited leadership experience.

“I think the leadership role is going to be really important to him. I know he is really keen to do the job and we, as coaches, should just assist him and make sure he gets the best out of his players and is leading the team appropriately the way we want him to lead,” Gary Kirsten was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“He’s got massive motivation and determination as an individual, which we have seen while playing for India. But like any new leader, he’s starting from scratch, and is going to face some challenges along the way and we, as coaches, will just have to assist him along the way,” Kirsten added.

Shubman assumed the captaincy of the Ahmedabad-based team following Hardik Pandya’s transfer to the Mumbai Indians last year. Hardik led the team to successful campaigns in the last two seasons, including a title win in 2022 followed by a runners-up finish in 2023.

The 24-year-old delivered an outstanding performance in IPL 2023. The batter clinched the Orange Cap with a remarkable tally of 890 runs in 17 matches. Balancing his exceptional batting prowess with the duties of captaincy poses an intriguing challenge for him.
