Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Faf du Plessis attended Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) green jersey launch event in Chennai on Wednesday, March 20. However, an embarrassing moment occurred during the event, involving RCB captain Faf du Plessis.

The Bengaluru team will kick off their season against the Chennai Super Kings at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, March 22. The RCB team hasn’t secured a win against the Chennai team on their home soil since their solitary victory back in 2008.

RCB held their Unbox event at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on March 19, where they unveiled their new jersey for the IPL 2024 season. They celebrated their women’s team’s victory in the WPL 2024 and honored R Vinay Kumar in the team’s Hall of Fame.

The day following the Unbox event, Royal Challengers Bengaluru introduced their green jersey, aligning with their environmental awareness initiative. The Bengaluru-based team will don the green jersey for one of their league-stage matches in the prestigious event.

During the ceremony, a party cracker burst near Faf du Plessis, which caught him by surprise. Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell couldn’t contain their laughter at Faf’s startled expression, and their jovial reactions quickly went viral across social media platforms.

RCB has advocated environmental sustainability through their “Go Green” initiative since 2011, wearing green jerseys for a single match each season. The Bengaluru-based team actively promotes awareness regarding the significance of planetary protection.

The 2016 IPL finalist’s performance has been underwhelming while wearing the green jersey in the IPL, with only four wins out of 13 games and one match abandoned in 2015. They introduced the green attire during the 2011 season clash against Kochi Tuskers.

We Are Both Very Competitive – Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis emphasized the incredible experience of batting alongside Virat Kohli in the IPL. Du Plessis highlighted Kohli’s leadership qualities, noting his significant contribution beyond batting, particularly in setting the tone for fielding energy.

“Batting is another thing where we click. It’s unbelievable batting with him. He’s one of my favorite guys to bat with. He brings out so much energy in me. Sometimes, I feel like I am fist-bumping my glove through his hand. He gets so passionate. Being out there, it’s really infectious the way he gives that energy,” Du Plessis said.

“I remember being in the opposition, and I got really pi***d with the amount of energy. … We are both very competitive. He’s really important to me in terms of the field. I think he leads so many things. I think fielding sets the tone for the energy on the field,” he added.

Virat Kohli has recently joined the team’s camp as they prepare for the upcoming game against CSK. He holds the record for the highest run scorer in IPL history, scoring 7263 runs in 237 matches at an average of 37.25 and a strike rate of 130.02, including seven centuries.

Last season, Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli formed a formidable opening partnership for RCB. Du Plessis was the second-highest run scorer in the IPL 2023 with 730 runs, while Kohli secured the fourth spot with 639 runs.
