The Royal Challengers Bangalore have given a grand welcome to their former captain and batting stalwart Virat Kohli who recently returned from London after a vacation. In a 49-second clip shared via RCB’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, Kohli can be seen exiting from Bengaluru airport and then entering the RCB bar and cafe with a special box and a special message for him.
Virat Kohli will be making his much-awaited return to competitive cricket after his 3-month long leave for the birth of his second child with wife Anushka Sharma. Kohli will stage his return through Bangalore’s IPL 2024 season opener against reigning champions Chennai Super Kings on March 22nd at the MA Chidambaram stadium.

The video first showcased the flurry of comments by RCB fans on social media asking “Where is Virat Kohli?”. Then in the next frame, tons of fans can be seen waiting in anticipation outside of Bengaluru international airport. Right after that, Kohli was shown taking a cab to reach the RCB cafe where he was greeted by a welcome box which had a letter as well as some goodies.
All the players including the Women’s team which won the WPL season 2 finale last night against Delhi Capitals, will be there at the RCB cafe for their Unbox event, slated to take place tomorrow. There are talks of the franchise changing their name from Royal Challengers Bangalore to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Their new jersey, if there’s any, will also be revealed tomorrow and fans are extremely excited to see what’s in store. And after the Women’s team ended the South Indian outfit’s wait for a Premier League trophy, the Men’s team will walk out with an added pressure to replicate the same and try to end their wait for the elusive IPL silverware.
All eyes will be on Faf du Plessis who can possibly become the first captain of the 3-time runners-up to win the elusive title this season. But for that, the RCB management will also be hoping for Virat Kohli to have an extraordinary season and perhaps like the one he had in 2016.
The former India captain had a 973-run season in 2016 where he led RCB to their 3rd and last IPL final appearance. They eventually lost to David Warner’s Sunrisers Hyderabad in front of home support at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium. Kohli had scored 4 centuries and 7 half-centuries, averaging 81.08 at a strike rate of almost 153.
It will also be important for Virat Kohli to have a season like that as not only is he making his competitive return but also in order for him to take the flight to USA and West Indies for the T20 World Cup in June.
