While Lucknow Super Giants’ main bowlers were struggling to make an impact against Punjab Kings during the 11th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024), debutant Mayank Yadav managed to hog all the limelight with his bowling.

The young pacer has impressed many with his sheer pace. A relatively unknown name in the cricketing circles, Mayank Yadav looks destined to become a household name sooner rather than later. With the likes of David Willey and Mark Wood pulling out of the tournament, LSG’s pace attack is already depleted and they decided to hand a debut to Mayank Yadav for their first home game of the season.

Just before the start of the season, LSG head coach Justin Langer raised a number of eyebrows by comparing Mayank Yadav with Mark Wood, one of the world’s fastest bowlers.

“We also have Shamar Joseph, we have Mayank who bowls with very good pace.  Hopefully we can replace, not [Wood’s] experience, but his pace with Shamar Joseph and Mayank,” Langer had said.

Well, not many would now doubt Langer after Mayank Yadav’s ferocious bowling on his debut. The right-arm pacer was introduced into the attack in the 10th over after LSG failed to pick up any wicket and he did not take long to impress.

He constantly bowled over 145kph in his first over and touched the 150kph mark as well. In his second over, he dismissed a well-set Jonny Bairstow to give PBKS a much-needed breakthrough and went on to bowl three deliveries over 150kph. He also touched the 156kph mark during the over.
