India youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal has been adjudged the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for February 2024, the governing body of the game announced on Tuesday (March 12). The opening batsman beat competition from Kane Williamson and Pathum Nissanka to win the award for the first time in his career.

Yashasvi Jaiswal won the award after his stunning show in the recently concluded five-match Test series against England. The left-handed batsman starred with the bat as India came from behind to beat England. The hosts had lost the first game before winning the following four Tests to clinch the series 4-1.

Yashasvi Jaiswal finished the series as the highest run-scorer. While no other batter could even touch the 500-run mark in the series, the Mumbai star smashed a record 712 runs at an average of 89 with the help of two double-centuries and three half-centuries. The double-centuries came in back-to-back games in February while he also scored a half-century in the same month.

He ended February with 560 runs at an average of 112 including 20 sixes. Earlier this month, he became the second-quickest Indian to 1000 Test runs. At present, he is the leading run-scorer in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle.

I am really happy: Yashasvi Jaiswal

Speaking after receiving the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award, Yashasvi Jaiswal expressed his delight and hoped that he will continue to win the award in the future. He further said that he enjoyed batting in his first-ever five-match Test series.

“I’m really happy to achieve ICC award and I hope I will be getting more in future,” Jaiswal said in a video posted by the BCCI. “It’s one of the best and this is my first five-match series.

“I really enjoyed it, the way I have played and the way it’s been and we won the series by 4-1. It’s been an incredible experience with all my mates And I really enjoyed it,” he added.

Speaking further, Jaiswal also picked his double-century in Rajkot as a memorable knock, saying: “I think when I celebrated my double century in Rajkot, I think that was something which I really enjoyed and felt it” he added.
