Abhishek Sharma has been in outstanding form this season. The left-handed batter guided Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to a convincing six-wicket victory at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Friday, April 5. He earned the Player of the Match award for his impactful knock.
The 23-year-old batter provided a sensational start for his team during the run chase against CSK. The southpaw smashed 37 runs off just 12 deliveries, with the help of three boundaries and four sixes. Abhishek added a 46-run opening stand in just 2.4 overs with Travis Head.
Abhishek targeted Mukesh Choudhary in the second over, hitting him for two fours and three sixes. He continued his onslaught in the subsequent over against Deepak Chahar, hammering a six and a four. However, his innings came to an end when he miscued a shot and was caught by Ravindra Jadeja at backward point.

Special Thanks To My Dad, Yuvi Paai, And Brian Lara - Abhishek Sharma
Abhishek attributed his success to dedication and thanked his father, as well as cricketing legends Yuvraj Singh and Brian Lara, for their guidance. Abhishek highlighted his team's strategy to capitalize on the powerplay, considering the slow wicket conditions.
"Big scores matter, but I went with the flow today. Hopefully, I will get out last next time. It is all the hard work I have put in before this. Special thanks to my dad, Yuvi Paaji, and Brian Lara," Abhishek said after the match, as quoted by Cricbuzz.
"In the bowling, we felt it was a slow wicket. So, we wanted to take the powerplay on. We had a chance to prepare well before the IPL. We knew it would be slow, but not if we took on the bowler. Because it would be difficult for the bowler as well," he added.
Abhishek's aggressive start proved crucial for SRH this ongoing season, addressing their middle-over challenges effectively. The left-handed batter has amassed 161 runs in four matches at an average of 40.25 and an impressive strike rate of 217.56, with a top score of 63.The Pat Cummins-led side moved to fifth in the points table after securing a six-wicket victory against the Super Kings.
The Hyderabad team will next face the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on Tuesday, April 9.
