The IPL 2024 auction is scheduled to take place on December 19 in Dubai, marking a historic milestone as the event takes place outside India for the first time. Although the IPL has been played twice on foreign soil, it is noteworthy that the auction has never ventured beyond Indian shores until now. The upcoming auction will not be a mega one as less than 80 slots are up for grabs.

Initially, 1166 players had registered themselves for the auction before the organisers shortlisted it to 333 players. Of these, 119 are overseas players, including two from Associate nations – Netherlands’ fast bowler Paul van Meekeren and Namibia allrounder David Wiese. The ten teams can sign a maximum of 77 players (30 foreign).

Some of the biggest names in the game such as – Travis Head, Pat Cummins, Harry Brook and Mitchell Starc – will be up for grabs during IPL auction 2024. From India, the leading players who will be auctioned are Shardul Thakur, Harshal Patel, Manish Pandey and Umesh Yadav. The players to be auctioned have been put into different categories based on their playing roles, nationalities and international cap status.

The capped players will go under the hammer first, with the auction order structured as follows: batsmen, all-rounders, wicketkeepers, fast bowlers, and spinners. Kolkata Knight Riders (12) have the most number of slots to fill while Gujarat Titans have the biggest purse (Rs 38.15 crores).
