Lahore Qalandars - Season-wise Performance:
Lahore Qalandars' PSL journey began in a disastrous fashion. In the first four seasons, they were arguably the worst performing team in the PSL as they finished at the bottom of the points table in each season.
In the inaugural season, they managed to win only two of their eight league games and finished at the bottom. Their only positive from the season was Umar Akmal's performance. Despite playing only seven games, the former Pakistan batsman finished the tournament as the highest run-scorer.
After the disappointing campaign in 2016, Lahore Qalandars made a number of changes to their squad. They traded their icon player Chris Gayle for Sohail Tanvir of the Karachi Kings during the off-season trade window. They also traded Sohaib Maqsood for Aamer Yamin of Peshawar Zalmi.
However, Lahore Qalandars' fortunes did not change as they finished at the bottom of the table once again. They finished at the bottom in the third and fourth seasons as well.
Lahore Qalandars finally progressed ahead of the league stage for the first time in 2020. In the playoffs, Lahore Qalandars beat Peshawar Zalmi by five wickets in the Eliminator before defeating Multan Sultans in the second qualifier. In the final, Lahore Qalandars lost to Karachi Kings.
Lahore Qalandars could not build on the runners-up finish as they had a disappointing campaign in 2021 as well. The Lahore-based outfit failed to advance ahead of the league stage after managing five wins and as many defeats.
Lahore Qalandars finally laid their hands on the PSL trophy in 2022 under the captaincy of Shaheen Afridi. With six wins from 10 games, they finished the league stage at the second spot in the points table. In the playoffs, Lahore lost against Multan Sultans in the qualifier before beating Islamabad United in the second Eliminator to advance to the final.
In the final, Lahore Qalandars beat Multan by 42 runs to win the tournament. In 2023, Lahore Qalandars scripted history by becoming the first team to defend the PSL title. They faced Multan Sultans in the final once again and won the game by 1 run. In 2024, Lahore Qalandars failed to progress ahead of the league stage.
