Nepal Premier League 2024
The Nepal Premier League (NPL) is Nepal's premier T20 tournament. It is a men's T20 tournament that is held annually in Nepal. The competition was founded by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) in 2024.
The competition has replaced the Nepal T20 League which took place for just one edition in 2022. The first edition of the Nepal Premier League will be held from 30 November to 21 December. A total of eight teams will be featuring in the inaugural edition of the tournament.
The eight teams represent the eight provinces/cities of Nepal. The eight teams are - Biratnagar Kings, Chitwan Rhinos, Janakpur Bolts, Karnali Yaks, Kathmandu Gurkhas, Lumbini Lions, Pokhara Avengers and Sudurpaschim Royals. The teams will be led by Nepal's leading cricketers such as Sandeep Lamichhane, Kushal Malla, Aasif Sheikh, Sompal Kami, Karan KC, Rohit Paudel, Kushal Bhurtel and Dipendra Singh Airee.
Talking about the Nepal Premier League format, there will be a round-robin stage followed by the playoffs. A total of 32 games will be played in the tournament. During the league stage, each team will play against the other seven teams once. The top four teams will then advance to the playoffs.
The top two teams will fight it out in the Qualifier 1 for a place in the final. On the other hand, the third and fourth placed teams will be playing the Eliminator. The loser of the Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator will be locking horns against each other in the second qualifier. The tournament will be played at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground.
