Ashish Nehra is a cricketer-turned-commentator who played for Team India since 1999. He is a left-arm pacer and played many games for Team India. He was also part of the side that won the ICC ODI World Cup 2011 under MS Dhoni.
Family and Personal Life
Ashish Nehra was born in April 1979 in Delhi to his father Diwan Singh and his mother Sumitra Nehra. He grew up with his brother Bhanu Nehra. He and Virender Sehwag were childhood friends.
Early and Domestic Career
His childhood coach Tarak Sinha helped him to groom his bowling. He got his first big break in 1997 when he was picked by the Delhi Ranji Team. Just two years later, he was picked by Team India in 1999. Nehra played for Delhi in the domestic circuit from 1997 to 2017.
International Career
Ashish Nehra played his first international match in February 1999 and his last game in December 2009. He made his Test debut in a match against Sri Lanka in February 1999. He played a total of 17 games during his career till 2004 and picked 44 wickets. Hence, his Test career lasted only 5 years.
Nehra played his first ODI game in 2001 and played a total of 120 matches till 2011. The left-arm seamer captured 157 scalps during his career. In T20Is, he played 27 games for the country and picked 34 wickets.
Franchise Career
Ashish Nehra played a total of 88 games during his career and got 106 wickets. He was part of IPL since the debut season in 2008. He later joined Delhi Capitals from 2009 to 2010.
Later, he moved to Pune Warriors India for two years- 2011 and 2012. Delhi Daredevils bought him in the 2013 season. Nehra played with Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad in his years in IPL.
