Oustanding Opener! Geoffrey Boycott is a former England cricketer who played for the England National Cricket Team as an opener. He represented the England Team in from the 1960s to the 1980s and played over 100 Tests.
Geoffrey Boycott was an opening batsman and represented the side regularly in Tests from 1964 to 1982. He was also part of the England Team that finished as runners-up in the ICC ODI World Cup 1979. After his retirement, he became a popular commentator.
Family and Personal Life
Geoffrey Boycott was born on 21 October 1940 in Yorkshire, England to Thomas and Jane Boycott. He grew up with his two brothers. Later, he married Margeret Rachel and the couple has a daughter named Emma Boycott.
Early and Domestic Career
The former England opener made his entry in the domestic circuit for Yorkshire in 1962 and went on to play for the same side till 1982. He was one of the prominent members of the Yorkshire Team due to his consistent association with the England Team in Tests.
International Career
Just two years after breaking into domestic team Yorkshire, Boycott made his international debut for England. He played his first Test game in June 1964 against Australia. He also made his ODI debut later in 1971, however, he was more of a Test specialist opener.
From 1964 to 1982, he played 108 Tests for England National Cricket Team. At an awesome average of 47+, he slammed 8114 runs with 22 centuries and 42 fifties. He also shattered a double ton of 246 runs.
He had a short stay in ODIs and featured in 36 games. He slammed 1082 runs at 36+ average with 1 century and 9 half-centuries. He was part of the 1979 ODI World Cup where England finished as runners-up to winners West Indies.

Sir Geoffrey Boycott is quite an active commentator after his retirement and also writes columns for many popular English Daily. He also worked with BBC radio and is one of the well-known cricket commentators and cricket experts.
