Glenn McGrath is still considered one of the best seamers to play for Australia who dominate as a pacer despite lacking too much pace. His bowling action, attention to detail, and dominance still fascinate the minds of the people of the 90s.
Glenn McGrath is a former right-arm seamer who played for Australia from 1993 to 2007. He ruled the Aussies' pace department with Brett Lee and Jason Gillespie in the late 90s and early 2000s and also helped the Australia team to win the ICC ODI World Cup 2003 and 2007.
Early and Personal Life
Glenn McGrath was born in February 1970 in New South Wales, Australia to Kevin and Beverly Mcgrath. He married Sara Leonardi in 2010 and she is his second wife. They have a boy named James Mcgrath and two daughters named Holly and Madison.
Domestic Career
Glenn McGrath started his domestic career in 2000 for Worcestershire in England. He became a popular member of the side with his early success. Later, he also played for Northamptonshire and Middlesex county clubs.
International Career
Glenn McGrath made his international debut in November 1993 with a Test match against New Zealand. He later made his ODI debut in the next month in December 1993 and became a regular member of the side in both formats. He also played 2 lone T20I games for Australia, however, the T20I trend arrived towards the end of his career and he could not play much in the format.
McGrath is one of the few Aussie players to play more than 100 Tests and 200 ODIs for Australia. He hunted 563 wickets in 124 ODI matches and 381 scalps in 250 games. He was also part of IPL for a short period.
Franchise Career
Glenn McGrath retired from international cricket after leading Australia to back-to-back ODI World Cup titles in 2003 and 2007. Hence, he did not get much chance to be part of the franchise T20Is.
He played for Delhi Daredevils in the 2008 and 2009 editions and Indian Premier League is the only franchise T20I league that the Australian stalwart was part of.
Legacy
Glenn McGrath is remembered as one of the calmest and most lethal seamers for Australia. Notably, Indian fans will never forget how he dismissed Sachin Tendulkar in the ODI World Cup 2003 final in the first over.
The event shattered the hopes of many fans as Tendulkar was on a stunning form in that tournament and India eventually lost the final. However, McGrath always ruled Australia's pace attack and it is not wrong to say that he played a leading role for the side in ODI WC 2003 and 2007 victories.
