Some bowlers become famous after getting hit for big shots by popular players and Haris Rauf is one of them. Haris Rauf is widely known for getting hit for a six off Virat Kohli during the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 when the Indian batting legend shattered a straight-drive six at a crucial moment.
Rauf is a right-arm pacer from Pakistan who is quite active in the limited-overs format. However, he usually stays from the longest format. Till now, he has only represented Pakistan in 1 Test.
Last year, Rauf was caught in a big controversy when he denied the Pakistan Cricket Board to be part of the Pakistan Test series in Australia after the ODI World Cup.
His negligence to play in Tests in series led to Pakistan Cricket Board not offering him a central contract in 2024. However, the controversy over the matter became so big that the Board revoked their decision.
Early and Personal Life
Haris Rauf was born to Rauf Ahmed in Rawalpindi City in Pakistan. He grew up with his two brothers. He married Muzna Masood Malik, his childhood schoolmate, in December 2022.
Rauf started playing hardball a little late at the age of 23. His childhood coach Aaqib Javed helped him to gain his fitness to be able to qualify for Pakistan Super League. He finally made his T20I debut for Lahore Qalandars in the 2018 season.
Domestic Career
Rauf got his first break in domestic cricket in 2018 in the Abu Dhabi T20 Trophy. In March 2019, he played for Baluchistan in Pakistan Cup. He became a regular member in the domestic circuit playing various tournaments. In the end, Rauf was picked by Pakistan Cricket Board in National T20 Cup in 2019.
International Career
Haris Rauf made his international debut in January 2020 with a T20I against Bangladesh. He picked 1 wicket in the match at a decent economy of 8.0.
Later, the right-arm pacer made his ODI debut in October 2020 with a game against Zimbabwe. Two months later, he made his Test debut against England in December 2022.
Sadly, Rauf gave a horrible show in the match getting just 1 wicket for 78 runs. As a result, he never made an appearance in the Tests again and the match against England is his lone Test game so far.
Interestingly, after the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, Rauf was recalled for the Test series against Australia but he opted out due to personal reasons. Later, his teammates revealed that he is not much interested in the longer format of the games.
Franchise Career
Haris Rauf has been an active member of the Pakistan Super League since 2019. He was part of Lahore Qalandars in his first edition and has been part of the same franchise since then.
The 30-year-old is also active in Big Bash League; where he has represented Melbourne Stars since the 2019 edition. He is a member of Rangpur Riders in Bangladesh Premier League and San Franciso Unicorns in Major League Cricket, a franchise T20 tournament in the USA.
