"The Best Left-Arm Pacer"- the words truly suit Mitchel Starc, whose swing and pace attack has been the nightmare for many batters for over a decade.
Mitchell Starc is a left-arm pacer who plays for Australia across all three formats. Starc, along with Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, have dominated with their pace attack all over the world for the last few years.
Notably, Starc can also smash big knocks down the order and is considered among the best tailenders in international cricket. With his tall height, he can clear the ropes.
Early Life and Career
Mitchell Starc was born on January 30, 1990, in New South Wales, Australia. He was brought up by his parents Paul and Maria Starc. He has a brother Brandon and two sisters Amanda and Tay.
He started playing cricket at Homebush Boys High School when he was just 9 years old. In 2008, New South Wales picked him into their squad for the domestic circuit. He rose the ranks with two years at the stadium and made his international debut in 2010.
International Career
Notably, Mitchell Starc made his debut in 2010 with an ODI series in India where he replaced injured Josh Hazlewood. In the next two years, he was also added in Tests and T20Is.
Australia won the ODI World Cup in 2015 and Mitchell Starc was named as the Player of the Tournament. Australia won the title and Starc got a lot of credit for his marvelous show, as he was the joint-highest wicket-taker with 22 wickets.
Later, he also played a major role in the 2019 and 2023 ODI World Cups. While Australia reached the semis in the 2019 season, they grabbed the title in the 2023 edition in India.
IPL and BBL Career
Mitchell Starc made his IPL debut in the 2014 season, when he was a member of Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He played just two seasons. He skipped the next 8 seasons to focus on his international career.
In IPL 2014, he played 14 games and captured 14 wickets. In the next season, he clinched 20 scalps for the side. He vanished till the 2023 season and shied away from participating in IPL auctions.
However, after Australia clinched a remarkable feat by winning the ODI World Cup 2023 in India, Mitchell Starc returned to IPL. Notably, it is a good preparation for the T20I World Cup in 2024, which will happen in the West Indies in June 2024.
With his successful show in India, he broke all previous records to become the highest-ever pick in IPL history. Starc was captured by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs. 24.50 crore.
In the Big Bash League, Starc only played in the 2011 and 2014 seasons, where he represented Sydney Sixers. He kept himself away from franchise T20 leagues to focus on his national duty.
Achievements
Mitchell Starc always focused on the national team and his commitment brought fruitful results. He won the Player of the Match award in the ODI World Cup 2015. He was part of the Australian team that won the ICC ODI Team of the Year in 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2019.
