Stunning fielder and a Rocking batsman! Suresh Raina can be defined with these words for his quick fielding skills and hard-hitting batting style. Suresh Raina is a former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator who played for Team India from 2005 to 2018.
Suresh Raina was a left-handed batsman and an occasional right-arm spinner. However, he was more of a powerful middle-order batter in white-ball formats.
Suresh Raina is also known as the poster boy for Chennai Super Kings who played for the side from his debut season in 2008 to his retirement in 2021. He is active in Legends League now- a tournament for retired players.
Family and Personal Life
Suresh Raina was born in November 1986 in Ghaziabad City to father Tirlokchand Raina and mother Parvesh Raina. His father was a retired army officer.
He grew up in a joint family with three elder brothers and one sister. Raina married Priyanka Chaudhary in April 2005 and the couple has a daughter named Gracia Raina.
Early and Domestic Career
Suresh Raina's big break in his early career was becoming the Uttar Pradesh captain in 2002. He was noticed by selectors at the young age of 16 years. Later, he went on to represent the UP state team till 2021.
International Career
With a consistent show in the domestic circuit for three years, the left-handed batsman eventually made his international debut in January 2005. He went on to play for India till July 2018 during the England series. Notably, Raina retired from international cricket just after MS Dhoni's retirement in August 2019.
Raina played for India across all three formats. From 2010 to 2015, the CSK stalwart played a total of 18 Tests with 768 runs and 13 wickets. He also featured in 226 ODIs from July 2005 to July 2018.
IPL Career
Suresh Raina was one of the greatest batsmen in the Indian Premier League. The left-handed batsman was part of Chennai Super Kings from his debut season in 2008 to his final season in 2021. However, when CSK was banned for two years in 2016 and 2017, Raina played for Gujarat Lions.
During his active years in IPL, Raina was the most successful batsman and the leading run-getter for the side. In 205 games from 2008 to 2021, the left-handed batter smacked 5528 runs with 1 century and 39 half-centuries.
