Younis Khan is a former Pakistan cricketer and captain of the Pakistan team who is regarded as one of the best batters for Pakistan. He also held the post of coach of the Pakistan team in the past. He led the Pakistan team to the T20 World Cup title in 2009.
Younis Khan is a former right-handed batsman who used to play in the middle order. He captained the Pakistan team across all three formats and was one of the successful captains for the side. He also used to bowl medium-pace, however, he only bowled in a handful of matches.
Family and Personal Life
Younis Khan was born on 29 November 1977 in Mardan City in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. He grew up with his two brothers- the late Sharif Khan and the late Farman Ali Khan. He tied the knot with Amna Khan in March 2007 and the couple has three children- two sons and one daughter.
Early and Domestic Career
Younis trained under former Pakistan player Rashid Latif during his early career. In the 1998 season, he got his first break with the Peshawar Team in domestic cricket. He went on to represent the side till 2005. Two years after entering the domestic circuit, he made his international debut for Pakistan.
International Career
Younis Khan made his international debut with an ODI against Sri Lanka in February 2000. He played his last match against England in 2015- an ODI match in UAE. During his 15-year stay with the national team, Younis Khan played a total of 118 Tests, 265 ODIs, and 25 T20Is.
He mustered more than 10K runs in Tests at 52+ average with 34 tons and 6 double tons. In ODIs, he added 7200+ runs with 7 tons and 48 fifties. In T20Is, he featured in 25 games hitting 442 runs.
Franchise Career
Younis Khan played just one game in the Indian Premier League in the 2008 season. He was a member of Rajasthan Royals in the season and won the title with the team. Later, he also played for domestic clubs in England (Nottinghamshire) and Australia (South Australia).
Records
Younis Khan is regarded as one of the outstanding middle-order batsmen for Pakistan. He holds the record for hitting a Test century in all the 11 countries that host Test cricket. He was also the first Pakistan cricketer to grab 100 catches in Test formats. He retired from all forms of cricket in November 2015.
