“A tricky spinner”- this is what comes to mind when we think about Yuzvendra Chahal. He is one of the finest spinners to ever play for India.
Yuzvendra Chahal is a right-arm spinner. He is a leg spinner who has represented Team India in ODIs and T20Is. He has also played for Team India in crucial tournaments across both formats.
For instance, Chahal was part of the Indian team in Asia Cup 2018. He also played in the ICC ODI World Cup 2019 and ICC T20 World Cup 2022.
Early Life and Career
Yuzvendra Chahal was born on July 23, 1990, in Jind City of Haryana. His father KK Chahal was an advocate in Haryana while his mother Sunita Devi was a homemaker. He grew up with his two elder sisters- Geetanjali and Neel. Chahal married choreographer Dhanashree Verma in 2020.
Since 2004, Yuzvendra Chahal has represented Haryana domestic team. He got a big break in IPL 2011 when Mumbai Indians picked him in their squad. However, he tasted success only after joining Royal Challengers Bangalore later.
International Career
Yuzvendra Chahal made his international debut in 2016, during an ODI series against Zimbabwe. In the same series, he also made his T20I debut. However, he never got a chance to make his Test debut for India.
Since 2016, the right-arm spinner grew up the ranks and became a regular member of Team India in white-ball formats. He also played in the ODI World Cup 2019. At one stage, Chahal was the leading wicket-taker for India in T20Is.
IPL Career
Mumbai Indians picked Yuzvendra Chahal in the IPL 2011. However, he played his first game in the 2013 season. In IPL 2014, Chahal was grabbed by Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Later, he was part of the side till the 2021 season and spent a lot of time with the franchise. Chahal was also part of the side in the 2016 season when RCB failed to win the final for the third time. At one time, Chahal was a poster boy for the RCB team.
Ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, RCB did not retain Chahal in their squad. During the auction, Rajasthan Royals picked the spinner in their squad. Till now, Chahal has been a member of Rajasthan Royals. In IPL 2022, Chahal won the purple cap.
