Islamabad United are set to lock horns with Lahore Qalandars in the 12th match of the Pakistan Super League 2022 on Saturday. Despite losing their second match of the season against Multan Sultans, Islamabad United would be pretty confident at the moment.

They know they have a strong side and would be confident of going far into the tournament. At the time of writing, they have won 1 match out of two. Their last game against Multan Sultans resulted in a 20-run defeat. The bowlers had a forgettable outing as Tim David and Rilee Rossouw wreaked havoc with the bat. Barring Shadab Khan, none of the bowlers looked threatening.

In pursuit of the total, the top three made aggressive starts but failed to convert those into big scores. Paul Sterling made 19 off 10, while Alex Hales amassed 23 off 14 balls. Islamabad lost their top three big wickets for 81 runs and had a mountain to climb.

Skipper, Shadab Khan then took it upon himself and played, arguably, the best knock of his PSL career. He was dropped on a few occasions and made the opposition pay for that. In just 42 balls, he scored 91 runs, a knock which was laced with 5 fours and 9 sixes.

Perhaps, had he stayed till the end, Islamabad United would have won the game. However, he was caught on the penultimate over and Islamabad fell 20 runs short of the target.

On the other hand, Lahore Qalandars are riding high on confidence at the moment. After losing the first match, they came back strongly with two consecutive wins. Shaheen Afridi and Co. beat Peshawar Zalmi by 29 runs in their last game.

All the batsmen in the top-four made vital contributions with the bat and, as a result of that, Lahore Qalandars managed to post a formidable score of 199 runs on the board. Once again, Fakhar Zaman top-scored with 66 runs in 38 balls.

Lahore Qalandars were equally impressive with the ball. Kamran Akmal and Haider Ali  played valiant knocks but the bowlers ensured they keep taking wickets at the other end.

Lahore Qalandars, in the end, restricted Peshawar Zalmi to 170 runs in the second innings. Zaman Khan was the pick of the bowlers as he picked 3 wickets for 32 runs in 4 overs. Shaheen Afridi (2 for 19) and David Wiese (2 for 11) also returned with impressive figures.

The pitch here at National Stadium is usually good for the batting. The teams batting first usually tend to score big totals on the board. Most of the matches have been high-scoring encounters thus far.

One can expect the upcoming game between Islamabad United vs Lahore Qalandars to be another such affair. Both teams would look to bowl first upon winning the toss, keeping in mind, especially the due factor.
