The fifth match of the PLS 2022 will have Peshawar Zalmi take on Islamabad United at National Stadium in Karachi on Sunday. Peshawar Zalmi was led Shoaib Malik in their first game on Friday. Despite conceding a mammoth score of 190 runs, the Zalmi managed to chase it down in 19.4 overs.

Barring Usman Qadir, none of the bowlers lived up to the expectations. Qadir was the pick of the bowlers, returning with figures of 2 for 20 in 4 overs. Ahead of the next game on Sunday, Peshawar Zalmi should look to make improvements on the bowling front.

The batting unit, however, stepped up to the task and did their job wonderfully. The openers, Tom Kohler-Cadmore (22 off 16) and Yasir Khan (30 off 12) made valuable contributions. Hasan Ali looked far from his best as he made 19 off 21.

However, the match-defining partnership between Shoaib Malik and Hussain Talat turned things around for them. Hussain Talat played a sensational knock of 48 runs in 32 balls, while Shoaib Malik remained unbeaten on 48 off 32 and, thereby, guided the side home in 19.4 overs. Peshawar Zalmi would look to continue the winning momentum ahead of the next game on Sunday.

Opponent, Islamabad United will be playing their first match of this season. The Islamabad United are the most successful franchise in the tournament, having won the competition twice in the tournament’s history. They would be eying on their third title ahead of a new season.

Islamabad United has one of the best batting units in the competition. They have got two powerful opening batsmen in Alex Hales and Paul Sterling. The duo is expected to get the team off to solid starts in the power play.

The middle-order took looks pretty solid, having got the likes of Shadab Khan, Colin Munro, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz among others. Furthermore, talented finishers, namely Azam Khan and Asif Ali add depth to this great batting unit.

Islamabad United, however, don’t possess a similar kind of threat with the ball. The onus for picking the bulk of the wickets will be on the shoulders of Hasan Ali and Shabad Khan. They have made a vital acquisition in Marchant de Lange. The South African fast bowler is known for his searing pace and bounce. It will be interesting to see how he goes about in the competition.
