Peshawar Zalmi lock horns with Islamabad United in the fifth match of the Pakistan Super League 2022 on Sunday. The Zalmi have made a positive start to their campaign, having won their first game against Quetta Gladiators by 5 wickets on Friday. They would look to continue the winning momentum.

The bowlers, though, went for plenty of runs in their first match of the tournament. The Zalmis conceded 190 runs in the first innings. Barring Usman Qadir, who picked 2 for 20 in 4 overs, none of the bowlers made a significant impact.

Sameen Gul picked 2 wickets as well but conceded 41 runs in his 4 overs, while Sohail Khan went for 51 without a wicket in his 4 overs. Patrick Brown finished with figures of 0 for 34 in 4 overs.

The team, however, would be pretty impressed with how they went about chasing down the total. The openers played vital cameos with the bat, followed by a match-defining partnership between Shoaib Malik and Hussain Talat.

Yasir Khan set the tone with a 12-ball 30-run cameo, while Hussain Talat played an outstanding knock of 52 runs in 29 balls. Skipper, Shoaib Malik remained unbeaten on 48 off 32 and thereby guided the side home in 19.4 overs with five wickets in hand.

Islamabad United, on the other hand, would be kick-starting their campaign on Sunday. They are the most successful team in the PSL history, having won the title twice. Islamabad United finished at the top of the table in the group stage last year but couldn’t replicate those performances in the playoffs.

Ahead of a new season, Shabad Khan and Co. would look to start on a winning note. The team should be confident of getting good starts at the top of the order as they possess two great openers in Paul Sterling and Alex Hales.

The middle-order consists of talented cricketers such as Colin Munro, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Shadab Khan among others. Munro, though, won’t be available for the first game due to quarantine rules in place. Add to that, talented finishers, namely Azam Khan and Asif Ali add depth to this great batting unit.

On the bowling front, the likes of Hasan Ali, Shadab Khan and Merchant de Lange will be the biggest bets. All three are special wicket-takers and the team would expect them to have a great season with the ball.
