The fifth match of the PSL 2022 sees Peshawar Zalmi take on Islamabad United on Sunday at National Stadium in Karachi. Peshawar Zalmi have already played a match and won that by 5 wickets.

In the absence of their full-time captain Wahab Riaz, the Zalmi conceded as many as 190 runs against Quetta Gladiators. Usman Qadir was the only bowler who looked threatening for the Zalmis. He picked 2 wickets for 20 runs in 4 overs.

However, despite conceding such as a big total, Quetta Gladiators managed to chase it down with 2 balls remaining in the match. All the batsmen in the top-five made crucial contributions. The openers set the tone with a 43-run partnership in just 3.3 overs. Khan made 30 runs in 12 balls, while Tom Kohler-Cadmore amassed 22 runs in 16 deliveries.

Haider Ali looked scratchy for his 21-ball 19, but match-defining knocks from Shoaib Malik (48 off 32) and Hussain Talat (52 off 29) turned the game around in the latter half of the innings.

Facing them are the Islamabad United, who will be playing their first game of this season. Islamabad United is the most successful team in the history of the tournament. Over the years, they have produced some sensational performances and the fans would expect them to deliver this year as well. Once again, they have compiled a pretty good squad.

In Paul Sterling and Alex Hales, the United have got two world-class openers. The duo will have the responsibility to get the team off to great starts. The middle-order took looks pretty solid, having got the likes of Shadab Khan, Colin Munro, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz among others.

Add to that, talented finishers, namely Azam Khan and Asif Ali add depth to this great batting unit. Islamabad United, however, don’t possess a similar kind of threat with the ball. The onus for picking the bulk of the wickets will be on the shoulders of Hasan Ali and Shabad Khan.

They have made a vital acquisition of Marchant de Lange. The South African fast bowler is known for his searing pace and bounce. It will be interesting to see how he goes about in the competition.

The pitch here at National Stadium is usually good for the batting. The teams batting first usually tend to score big totals on the board. The second match of the PSL 2022 saw both team scoring formidable totals on the board. It was a high scoring contest.

Expect the upcoming game between Islamabad and Peshawar to be another such affair. It will be a day game and thus due isn’t likely to come into the picture. But, still you expect the team to bat second upon winning the toss.
