Former Pakistan all-rounder and Quetta Gladiators’ latest signing, Shahid Afridi, has returned a positive result in his RT-PCR test just hours before the opening match of the PSL 2022 season.

The Gladiators will be Afridi’s fourth franchise in the league. He tested positive and will now isolate himself at home and follow the protocols that have been put in place by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The franchise confirmed that the 41-year-old will be allowed to join the squad once he completes his quarantine and returns a negative test result. Following the completion of the quarantine, Afridi can turn up for his 4th team, having already played for Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi, and Karachi Kings.

PSL 2022 will be Shahid Afridi’s last season

Afridi had already confirmed that the upcoming season will be his last and he will be retiring from all forms of the game. He will be keen to end his career on a high with a title victory.

I am excited to join Quetta Gladiators, a side that has had a roller-coaster ride in the past few events despite winning the title in 2019. In my final PSL event, it will be my dream and wish to sign off with another PSL trophy after tasting success with Peshawar Zalmi in 2017,” Afridi had said.

The PSL season will begin on January 27 and end on February 27. Only two cities – Karachi and Lahore – have been chosen as the venue keeping the covid-19 threat in mind.
