Iftikhar Ahmed has opened up on his on-field altercation with Shaheen Afridi during the game between Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans in the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2024 (PSL 2024).

The incident took place when the right-handed batsman came out to bat towards the end of the game. Multan Sultans needed 39 runs in 21 balls when Iftikhar Ahmed came out to bat in the 17th over after the dismissal of a well-set Mohammad Rizwan.

The Pakistan batter started his innings by hitting a four before Shaheen Afridi came to bowl the crucial 18th over. The middle-order batter welcomed his Pakistan captain into the attack by hitting him for a four. It was a lovely shot but Shaheen Afridi was not amused by it at all.

The Qalandars skipper was seen saying something to his Pakistan teammate while also raising his arm. Iftikhar Ahmed was also in no mood to back down as he was seen staring at the pacer before saying something to him. The on-field umpire had to intervene to bring the situation under control.

After the game, Iftikhar Ahmed was asked about his on-field fight with Shaheen Afridi. In reply, the 33-year-old came up with a humorous reply, saying: “This is the beauty of cricket, staring angrily or boasting about yourself. Personally, I play aggressively.

“Shaheen is my junior, there are no issues with him. He is now the captain of Pakistan as well, so staring at him is very difficult,” he added while smiling.

Talking about the game, Iftikhar Ahmed played a fine cameo to power his side to a thrilling five-wicket win. He smashed an unbeaten 34 runs off just 11 balls with the help of five fours and 2 sixes as the Sultans chased down 167 runs with one over remaining. Apart from Iftikhar, Sultans captain Mohammad Rizwan played a crucial knock as well, scoring 82 off 59 balls.

After the game, Afridi praised Iftikhar for his finishing, saying: “Iftikhar Ahmed and Khushdil are the best finishers in the country. We played good cricket but didn’t take our chances.”
