Multan Sultans’ pacer Chris Jordan unleashed a perfect yorker to get rid of Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 Qualifier 1. Chris Jordan cleaned up Babar Azam at the crucial stage of the match in the recent knockout match.

Multan Sultans clinched a seven-wicket victory in Qualifier 1 at Karachi’s National Stadium on March 14. The Sultans advanced to the Pakistan Super League 2024 final. Despite their loss, Peshawar Zalmi will have another opportunity to compete in Eliminator 2.

During the 14th over of the match, Chris Jordan bowled Babar Azam as he nailed a yorker at 143 kmph. Babar attempted to play the ball past point but missed completely, resulting in his dismissal on the challenging surface. The delivery hit the base of the off stump.

Babar Azam’s dismissal was a setback for Peshawar Zalmi, with their score at 101/4 in 13.4 overs. Babar had a strike rate of 109.52 during the knockout match. The Peshawar Zalmi captain contributed 46 runs off 42 deliveries, with the help of five boundaries.

Babar Azam maintains his lead in the run-scoring charts, amassing 544 runs in 10 innings with an impressive average of 60.44 and a strike rate of 144.29. The batter has recorded one century and five half-centuries, with his highest score being an unbeaten 111 runs.

Chris Jordan mentioned adjusting his strategy to counter the challenges posed by the conditions. Reflecting on Babar’s dismissal, Jordan stated that it was a good delivery.

“Was more or less assessing the conditions, pitch was slow, when I came back on after the first over of the powerplay, was four runs too many, tried to change up things, and was a good ball at the end of the day (the yorker that got Babar),” Jordan said.

“The square was quite abrasive and we spoke about keeping the ball up in the powerplay and a bit of tail at the back end,” the English pacer added.

Multan Sultans Advance To PSL 2024 Final

Batting first, Peshawar Zalmi posted a below-par total of 146/7 in 20 overs. Mohammad Haris contributed 22 runs, and Tom Kohler-Cadmore added 24 runs. Paul Walter (14) and Luke Wood (14) also made valuable contributions towards the end of the innings.

Chris Jordan and Usama Mir shone in the bowling department for the Multan Sultans, each taking two wickets. Additionally, Abbas Afridi, David Willey, and Mohammad Ali secured one wicket each for the team.

The Sultans successfully chased down the target, wrapping up the match in 18.3 overs with seven wickets remaining. Young opening batter Yasir Khan impressed with a half-century, scoring 54 runs off 37 deliveries, including seven boundaries and one six.

Usman Khan added significant runs with an unbeaten 36 runs, while Iftikhar Ahmed made a quickfire 22* off eight balls. Peshawar bowlers Mehran Mumtaz, Aamer Jamal, and Salman Irshad each claimed a wicket.
