Mohammad Rizwan, on Tuesday (March 12), starred with the bat as Multan Sultans thrashed Quetta Gladiators by 79 runs to end their league stage in PSL 2024 in style. Asked to bat first, the Sultans posted a big total of 185 for 4 in 20 overs on a tough batting pitch.
Mohammad Rizwan laid the platform for the big score by scoring 69 runs off 47 balls with the help of one four and four sixes. Johnson Charles and Iftikhar Ahmed then provided the finishing touches. While Charles slammed 53 off just 29 balls, Iftikhar smashed 20 off eight.
In reply, the Gladiators were bowled out for just 106 runs inside 16 overs. Barring Omair Yousuf, who scored 37, no other Gladiators player could score more than 16 runs. For the Sultans, David Willey and Usama Mir picked up three wickets each while Abbas Afridi claimed two wickets.
While Mohammad Rizwan is receiving praise from all around for his batting and captaincy, he has also become the butt of all jokes on social media for speaking the wrong English. Time and again, cricketers from Pakistan find themselves on the receiving end of social media trolling for their inability to speak English correctly and Mohammad Rizwan is the latest to find himself in the firing line.
The incident took place just before the start of the Gladiators’ innings. While Willey was being interviewed, Rizwan walked up to him and told the interviewer: “We are hearing one minute.”

Mohammad Rizwan delighted with the team effort:
Speaking after the game, Mohammad Rizwan expressed his delight over the way his team performed. The Sultan’s captain said that he would have batted first even if the toss went his way. The wicketkeeper-batsman praised Johnson Charles and Iftikhar Ahmed for their knocks before saying that the Sultans’ team combination depends on the opposition.
“Would’ve batted first today. The way Charles and Iftikhar finished was brilliant. Iftikhar adds a lot of depth for us. Depending on opposition we see the best XI. Will do the same against Zalmi. As you can see, our batting positions keep changing depending on what’s best,” said Mohammad Rizwan.
The Sultans will lock horns against Peshawar Zalmi in Qualifier One. The match is scheduled to take place on Thursday (March 14) in Karachi. The winner of the game will qualify for the final.
