England and Pakistan’s 2 explosive batters Jason Roy and Iftikhar Ahmed got into a heated argument last night when Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators played the final PSL 9 league stage match. Roy and Iftikhar got into it after the Englishman received his marching orders from the crease as he kicked in the air in frustration. The incident rocked up the entire crowd present in the National Stadium in Karachi.

When Jason Roy kicked the air in frustration, he didn’t realize that Iftikhar Ahmed was walking by him. Even though Roy’s kick did not make any contact with Iftikhar, the veteran Pakistani might not have liked the gesture. On his way to join the team hurdle, Iftikhar chirped a few words to the English batter who too, had a few words in return.

It all happened after Jason Roy’s countryman David Willey got him out with a leg-before wicket through a short-of-length delivery. It was a plumb LBW as the ball would have hit the off and middle stump after crashing Roy’s thigh pad. The Englishman who recently announced he won’t feature in IPL 2024, attempted a poor pull shot off Willey.

Jason Roy, instead of playing with a straight bat and towards the side screen, went across the line to play the shot, misjudged the length, and lost his wicket for 3 off 7. His poor decision frustrated him and that kick came out in the heat of the moment but it was never intended to disrespect anyone.

But Iftikhar Ahmed, known for his aggressive nature, felt like Jason Roy was disrespectful towards him. The argument between them saw the match come to a halt for a while. Multan Sultans captain Mohammad Rizwan was the first to intervene in the scene, asking Roy to continue walking back to the dressing room with others pulling Iftikhar back.

The cheap dismissal of Jason Roy initiated yet another dramatic batting collapse of the Quetta Gladiators who could have gone 2nd in the points table had they won against Multan last night. The Gladiators will now have to make 2 efforts to reach the final – by defeating Islamabad United in Eliminator 1 and then beating either Multan or Peshawar Zalmi in Eliminator 2.

Gladiators’ South African skipper Rilee Rossouw expressed his worries about the team’s poor batting performance and took the blame entirely on himself. “Our batting once again let us down. The bottom line is that I need to start scoring runs. I’m letting the team down. Hopefully, in the playoffs, something happens. We wanted to play good cricket going into the playoffs. That wasn’t to be.” – Rossouw said during the post-match presentation.

Jason Roy finishes PSL 9 league stage with 252 runs

With his 3 of 7 last night, Jason Roy finished off the PSL 9 group stages with 252 runs from 9 innings at a strike rate of 143.18. Roy had a best of 75 runs on his way to score those runs, including thirty-one fours and just eight sixes. Jason Roy will be back in action very soon when Quetta takes on Islamabad United for Eliminator 1 on March 15th at Karachi.
