Uttar Pradesh Cricket Team 2024

The Uttar Pradesh cricket team represents the state of Uttar Pradesh in Indian domestic cricket. The team is run by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association and plays its home games at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. 

Talking about Uttar Pradesh cricket team's history, it was formed in the year 1934 under the name of United Provinces. The name was changed to Uttar Pradesh during the 1950-51 season. Uttar Pradesh have struggled for consistently in Ranji Trophy since their debut season in 1934.

They have won India's premier first-class tournament only once so far when they clinched the title in 2005-06 season. It was a dream campaign for the side as it was on the verge of relegation before bouncing back in style to win the tournament. In the final, the Mohammad Kaif-led side had defeated Bengal on the basis of first-innings lead.

The Uttar Pradesh cricket team has also finished runner-up five times in the Ranji Trophy. They last qualified for the Ranji Trophy final in 2008-09 season. One of the main reasons behind the team's impressive display in 2000s was the emergence of some world class players who went on to represent India in international cricket.

Players such as Kaif, Suresh Raina, Praveen Kumar, Piyush Chawla and Bhuvneshwar Kumar used to play for Uttar Pradesh during that phase. The Uttar Pradesh cricket team has also won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy once so far.
