The inaugural edition of Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) new Twenty20 League (SA20) kicks off on Tuesday, January 10 with the MI Cape Town taking on Paarl Royals at the iconic Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town. Royals batter Jos Buttler said that he is ‘selfishly’ looking forward to watching fast bowler Jofra Archer bowl after almost 18 months.

Jofra Archer has started his return to international cricket by representing MI Cape Town in the SA20 league. The England bowler has been sidelined since March 2021 due to a stress fracture and elbow problems. He bowled nine overs in his first outing when the Lions played England in Abu Dhabi ahead of the Pakistan Test series in November.

The X-Factor Player Is Back On The Field – Jos Buttler

Speaking in a video uploaded by the Paarl Royals’ Twitter handle, England limited-overs captain Jos Buttler expressed his excitement over Archer’s return in the SA20 tournament. Buttler called the speedster an “X-factor,” and he was concerned about the threat he would pose.

“You know, selfishly, I’m excited to see Jofra Archer back on the pitch. Jofra has been out for a long time due to some injuries and selfishly, as an England white-ball captain, I’m excited to see him back and available, and playing cricket”, said Buttler, through Paarl Royals’ Twitter handle.

“So I think that is a treat for everyone around the world. The x-factor player is back on the field. So, we’ll have to be at your best to combat him because he’s a superstar. I think it is a great moment that he is back playing cricket competitively”, he concluded.

The 27-year-old has been named in the ODI squad against South Africa and will make his return to international cricket with the three-match series starting January 27 in Bloemfontein. Archer represented England in 13 Tests, 17 ODIs, and 12 T20Is, taking 42, 30, and 14 wickets, respectively.
